CBD Hemp Oil – Everything You Need to Know

What is CBD Hemp Oil?

CBD is one of the most heavily-discussed topics when it comes to cannabis legalization. It possesses a wellspring of medicinal benefits which have been explored by wads of clinical studies. Out of over 400 compounds found in cannabis, CBD is one of the two most studied – the other being the psychoactive component THC. But unlike THC, it delivers tremendous therapeutic effects without altering the user’s consciousness.

CBD hemp oil is a composite of CBD extracts and hemp oil, all derived from the hemp plant. Since it contains only CBD as the main ingredient, it’s devoid of psychoactive properties. However, depending on the quality of the CBD hemp oil product, you might find some traces of THC that might cause mild psychoactivity.

New Zealand CBD laws seek to address the level of purity of CBD hemp oils, stipulating 2% as the legal threshold for THC contents for CBD products.

That’s significantly lower THC contents compared to recreational cannabis, consigning CBD hemp oil to the medical category of cannabis products.

Does Hemp Oil Contain CBD?

Unlike marijuana, the hemp plant isn’t rich in cannabinoids. It contains mostly CBD in its flowers, leaves, and stalks. Hemp seeds are completely devoid of cannabinoids, including CBD. Hemp seeds contain 30% oil, which can be extracted using a cold-press process to obtain what’s known as hemp seed oil or simply hemp oil.

To make the oil medicinally potent, it can be laced with CBD extracts, which are fat-soluble. However, undergoing such a procedure disqualifies the product from the hemp oil category according to New Zealand laws. The laws hold that hemp seed oil must be bereft of all cannabis compounds, including CBD.

Benefits and Usage of CBD Hemp Oil

CBD extracts dissolved in hemp oil carry immense therapeutic potentials. CBD hemp oil is an effective remedy for a wide range of ails that cause pain and discomfort. Compared to THC and other cannabinoids, CBD is generally considered a medicinal substance that helps fight a host of disease symptoms in the body.

CBD interacts with receptors in our endocannabinoid system, which is central to myriads of bodily functions. The introduction of CBD into the body helps balance out bodily systems to restore normalcy and bring relief to various symptoms.

More studies are still needed to verify the true extent to which CBD can be applied to remedy various ails. Currently, there’s conclusive evidence of the drug’s effectiveness in treating certain types of severe epilepsy. There’s also a slew of study results pointing to CBD’s effectiveness in remedying ailments such as:

  • Parkinson’s
  • Depression
  • Chronic pain
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Anxeity
  • Loss of appetite
  • Insomnia
  • Glaucoma

This isn’t an exhaustive list, and more ailments will be added as more evidence emerge from studies.

Hemp Oil vs CBD Oil

The only thing that CBD oil and hemp oil have in common is their source – the hemp plant. Besides that, they differ wildly in chemical composition. Hemp oil is derived from hemp seeds and CBD oil from the flowers, stalks, and leaves of the plant.

Hemp oil is largely known for its robust nutty flavor and rich nutrient profile, which make it an ideal cooking oil. Hemp oil is one of the few oils that contain omega-3 and omega-4 fatty acids, which are essential to everyday life. And it’s one of the even fewer sources that contain the essential nutrients in their most optimal ratios.

Hemp oil is also chockfull of proteins, polyunsaturated acids, and vitamin e. Coupled with its excellent moisturizing qualities, its rich vitamin e contents make it an ideal ingredient for skin care products including soaps, shampoos, lotions, and other beauty products.

However, when it comes to therapeutic properties, hemp oil is no match for CBD oil. While hemp oil has shown potentials for treating atopic dermatitis and some age-related skin diseases, CBD has shown potentials for treating a massive list of ailments, as shown above.

Where Can You Buy CBD Hemp Oil in New Zealand

CBD oil is legally obtainable in New Zealand for anyone with a doctor’s prescription. Wide varieties of CBD products are available in pharmacies, licensed dispensaries, and online stores. However, to stay on the side of the law, you also have to ensure that the CBD hemp oil product comes with a certificate of analysis from an independent lab showing that its THC contents don’t exceed 2%.
