The Most Exotic Weed Strains on Earth

How many weed strains exist?

One of the main reasons behind the boom in the cannabis industry is the multi-purpose nature of the plant. Marijuana is associated with an ever-increasing range of medicinal and psychoactive properties. These properties vary in intensity, based on the chemical composition and molecular structure of cannabis strains.

Currently, there are over a thousand cannabis strains, each bred to obtain a unique set of properties. These strains are roughly classified into three groups depending on their dominant character traits and chemical compositions. These are the two most common:

The indicia group, believed to have originated mostly from the Hindu Kush mountains of India, contains strains that are mostly soothing and relaxing in nature. Sativa strains, on the other hand, are known for their highly energizing effects.

Note, however, that you might not feel the purported dominant effect of any particular strain for a number of reasons. For starters, the inert differences in the composition of the human endocannabinoid system imply that different bodies will react differently to the same cannabis strain. Another reason is that the medicinal profiling of strains isn’t accurate to the tee – they’re merely just rough evaluations.

That’s why you can take your cannabis experience to the next level if you can find the perfect strain for you. In the following sections, we highlight the most exotic cannabis strains that are renowned for their excellent kicks.

The most exotic cannabis strains and where they come from

We’ve put together a list of the most exotic cannabis strains out there, and we’ve also found out where they come from.

Acapulco Gold – As its name implies, this sativa strain originates from Acapulco, Mexico. It’s one of the most widely acclaimed cannabis strains but because its cultivation is increasingly being restricted to indoor labs, it’s becoming increasingly scarce. Acapulco Gold is known for its distinct ambrosial, earthy, citrus flavors and its highly energizing euphoric effect. It’s also known as an effective stress-buster, pain reliever, and even a remedy for nausea.

Blue Dream – Blue Dream is a sativa-dominant hybrid that’s named after its widely acknowledged full-body relaxing effects. It doesn’t sedate completely but induces full-body relaxation together with relief from pain, inflammation, stress, and cramps. It’s also known for inducing a soothing cerebral stimulation, as well as fighting depression and nausea.
Blue Dream originated from California through cross-breeding Blueberry and Haze strains.

Purple Kush – A quintessential indica strain, Purple Kush is renowned for its deeply relaxing and sedative effects. It’s also ideal for fighting pain and muscle spasms. Thanks to its capacity to induce blissful sleep, it’s also a great remedy for insomnia.
Purple Kush shares a similar history with other Purple marijuana strains that originate from Oakland, California.

Super Silver Haze – Although its name hints heavily at a hazy, racey effect, Super Silver Haze actually provides a well-balanced combination of high-energy and soothing effects, thanks to the indicia base of its breed profile. This makes it perfect for managing stress, staying focused and productive, and remedying ailments like nausea, cramps, and more.
The Super Silver Haze breed was created by Australian-Dutch breeders in Amsterdam, but its parent strains originate from California.

Sour Diesel – Facts about the origin of this strain aren’t as conclusive as those of its distinct physical and chemical characteristics. According to some sources, the parent strain was first bought in Colorado and then distributed to the East Coast for more experimentation. Sour Diesel was created when the strain from Colorado was combined with the Chemdawg plant and then subsequently the Super Skunk.
As its name suggests, Sour Diesel comes with a sharp diesel aroma and is renowned for its highly energizing, uplifting, and stress-relieving effects.

Pineapple Express – This strain was highly popularized by the 2008 eponymous movie, Pineapple Express, though it actually predates the movie. It is a sativa-dominant hybrid created by G13 labs through the crossbreeding of the Hawaiian and Trainwreck strains. Pineapple Express also lives up to its name, with its unmistakable pineapple scent.
Unlike in the movie, the strain doesn’t induce an over-the-top high that leaves its users unhinged. It’s highly energizing, but it also relaxes the mood and allows for optimal concentration during work.

Final words – Cannabis strains and the branding of cannabis products

Not all cannabis products contain the exact strains indicated on their labels. Some products come with labels that indicate certain strains purely as a marketing scheme, because the purported strains are believed to be in high demand in a market. However, well-known brands do not engage in this shady marketing tactic. It’s therefore recommended that you stick to reputable brands when buying cannabis products to ensure that the labeling is consistent with the actual content.
